  It is going to be entertaining to see the Obama-derangement-syndrome emerge within the dialogue on talk radio, FOX News, and at the local hunting supply stores. This is a trap that the left fell into while Bush was in office. Many on the left used Bush as a convenient straw man and indulged in blaming him for every solitary problem in this country. I was astounded when some even blamed the Bush administration for the bridge collapse in Minneapolis. It will be no different among the right wing with Obama.

  When some union hack in Florida is investigated for misallocation of funds, they'll claim that Obama has ties to him. When some Democrat mayor in Vermont is caught with marijuana; they'll link Obama to the guy. And, when there is a liquor store robbery in the Bronx; of course Obama will have ties to the robbers. How soon will we hear that Obama knew about 9/11 ahead of time? Having trouble making ends meet? Obama's fault.

  Now, as far as this Blagojevich character is concerned. The guy looks like a circa 1970 Montgomery Wards mannequin. Anybody with hair like that should be impeached. Either that, or he should be invited to pose for the cover of a Watchtower magazine.

  Horrible conduct by congregation Elders at my cousin's funeral.............

  my cousin passed away last week from cancer at the age of 49. the cancer spread so fast it took our family by surpise.

  we figured she had a couple of years instead of months.

  she left 4 children(3 were baptised and 1 was disfellowshipped a couple of years ago).

  It's interesting that in light of how we derided the first century Jewish religious leaders, we were much more like them than we ever immagined. This kind of legalistic behavior is a textbook example of how the Pharisees engaged with people.

  What amazes me about this conduct is that there was a time in my life when I thought that this behavior was appropriate ("just being obedient to Jehovah"). I can even recall behaving in this manner toward disfellowshipped people. I certainly feel that I have some amends to make in my life.

  i hope everyone will participate in acknowledging others who made jwd so special.. .

  Alan F was my favorite poster. His debates with the posters scholar and thirdwitness regarding the 607/587 issue were legendary; and quite entertaining. He also provided some excellent commentary on the Old Testament, and wrote a very well researched paper on the Genesis flood story.

  Doctrinal ramifications of large increase in 2008 memorial partakers?

  the nearly 10% increase in partakers at the memorial in the 2008 annual service report is a huge increase.

  there were increases in the previous years too.. this massive increase is no doubt attributeable to the 'new light' this year that the calling of the 'heavenly class' was not closed in 1935, as previously taught.

  the new understanding this year is that the calling of the 'anointed' class is 'evidently' still open.

  Millions sit at the reject Jesus party every year. As mere onlookers. Talk about waving sandwiches under the noses of starving children. This is just for US. Nah nah nah.

  Why bother going at all??

  This has been my point Hamster. In the Gospel records, you will find no commandment by Jesus for "other sheep" to go sit and watch other people partake of the emblems. The whole affair is rediculous. You are certainly right - why bother attending? There was only the commandment to partake; there is nothing written about being a spectator.

  There is a huge difference between playing baseball versus sitting up in the grand stands and watching.

  the watchtower always uses the old testament verses to support this, so elders don't really have a leg to stand on.

  i wonder if i got a little watchtower symbol if that would be okay.

  The average Witness just doesn't talk about doctrine anymore

  if you were "in the truth" for some years, you will remember this.

  we used to have bible games at parties.

  we used to discuss doctrinal matters in the car group in service, and at get-togethers.

  There is a major symptom that I began to notice when questioning the organization. Have you noticed how much of the Watchtower information is dispensed at assemblies via demonstrations? There are demonstrations on how to Witness to someone on a park bench, demonstrations on how to talk to a child about pornography, demonstrations on how to handle a grudge, demonstrations on how to decline a Christmas party, and on and on.

  To a large degree, Jehovah's Witnesses are not taught to think within the organization. They are taught to humbly receive material, retain it, and then to repeat it - all within the confines of the JW closed society. The memorization and repetition of talking points is a prominent aspect of the JW life. We can see how much of the Service meeting parts are devoted to demonstrations and the repetition of talking points.

  It is no wonder that doctrine is not discussed. As I have stated before, the Watchtower organization is focussed not on education through thinking; but education through repetition, retention, and verbal repeating. Sort of like children who are taught their times tables.

  A Witnesse's level of spirituality is gauged in large part by their ability to memorize and repeat Watchtower talking points, assembly talks, and organizational policies. To attempt to pick these things apart and question them independently is viewed as having an "independent spirit", or a "fault-finding attitude".

  Jehovah's Witnesses are sort of like a marching band that memorize and repeat pre-designed, and pre-planned songs and moves in order to look good in a parade. The outward unity and conformity may be impressive to the eyes, but it is something that has been pre-designed, fabricated, and enforced - not natural.

  This is hilarious. I don't even care to attempt to figure this out. I am just enjoying the good laugh that I'm getting from this. Here is something to consider however. Can you imagine what will happen to this annointed figure when China opens up? Not only with the Witnesses that can freely report, but with all of the new ones coming in?

  This number of annointed figure is going to become irrelevant after a while. It will continue to yo-yo up and down like the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Why bother printing it?

  In a sense, this has already happened. For all intents and purposes, it was really Fred Franz who wrote the Old Testament. He may as well have been. He took the Old Testament, turned it, twisted it, and tied it into knots in order to make it apply to the Watchtower organization. Senior members of the Watchtower staff even referred to him as the "oracle".

  Today, the Governing Body are more or less the body of apostles, and the Watchtower articles are the repositories of new light.

  Jehovah really is revealing prophecies to the JWs. It just all depends on how you define Jehovah. Is Jehovah the omnipotent power of the universe, or is he a just a imaginary character that operates inside the subconscious minds of the GB - like a computer virus that operates inside of a PC?

  Did Jehovah really command the Isreallites to commit rape and genocide, or did writers seek to provide political cover for attrocities they committed by saying that "God said so"? Did Allah really tell those young men to fly airplanes into buildings? Or did the delusions of their minds lead them to do so?

  Jehovah and Allah are one and the same character. So is Baal, Vishnu, Zeus, and the tooth fairy. And whatever proclomations they might utter; whether it be to blow up buses, make changes to blood policy, or for a Texas Governor to run for president are delusions of the mind. God doesn't want anyone to do anything. How could he?

  How could that which is omnipotent have any needs or desires?

  in today's ny times there is an article on this topic, and here are two quotes:.

  'its a wonderful time, a great evangelistic opportunity for us,' said the rev.

  The only time I saw any phenomenal growth was from 1966 to 1975 based on manufactured bad times by the WTS. When they didn't deliver the end, things dropped off and that kind of increase has not been duplicated since.

  This is a reason why many believe that a serious economic crisis (on the scale of the Great Depression) would re-awaken that kind of JW growth here in the U.S. I disagree with this theory. I believe that almost all of that growth would be seen in the large churches that render many of the kinds of services that I discussed above. People are looking for spirituality that helps them cope with life. They are not looking for a magazine or a tract.

  The larger churches that outreach to the communities via food banks and charitable giving will be those who appeal to the public the most. It will be those that gain new visitors via word of mouth because of the inspiration and dynamic natures of their pastors. What does the Watchtower organization offer? A boring thirty minute talk followed by a Watchtower study. (where the visitor doesn't even get to keep the magazine.) Pathetic.

  The Watchtower organization is like a company still trying to sell pagers in a market that is demanding iPhones and Blackberry's.

  It would have been a more spiritual experience as a Avon Lady than a JW.

  LOL Whether you are selling make-up, or selling the Watchtower message; the dilemma is still the same: you can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.
